Radiography (X-Ray)

What is an X-Ray?
This is the most frequently used form of diagnostic imaging. Images are created by passing controlled amounts of radiation through the human body and capturing the resulting shadows on a film plate.

Who should NOT have an X-Ray exam?
If you are pregnant or may be pregnant, consult your physician prior to the exam.

How should I prepare for my X-Ray exam?
- Please bring previous diagnostic imaging studies of the area being examined.
- Depending on the type of x-ray, there may be no preparation required. There are specific types of x-ray exams that do require preparation and your doctor will give you detailed instructions on how to prepare.

What should I wear for my X-Ray exam?
Please wear comfortable clothing. If needed, a dressing gown will be provided.

What should I expect during my X-Ray exam?
Depending on the type of X-Ray exam, you may be asked to take an oral contrast agent. Also depending on the type of x-ray exam, you may be asked to hold your breath and remain still for a few moments. Your position, standing or laying, will also be determined based on the type of x-ray exam being performed.
